Although the economy has been less than ideal in recent years, cosmetic plastic surgery procedures continue to gain popularity. According to a study by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), the most popular procedure performed in the United States is now liposuction. In 2009, liposuction made up 18.8 percent of all surgeries, surpassing the previous title holder – breast augmentation, which was the top most requested procedure for multiple years.

Individuals who have exhausted natural means of weight loss, such as healthy eating habits and regular exercise, often turn to this body contouring procedure. With the advances in techniques and technologies, qualified cosmetic plastic surgeons have the ability to provide patients with a less traumatic surgery. New liposuction methods can lessen bleeding, bruising, and swelling during and after the procedure. Patients may anticipate a slimmer, better-contoured shape post-surgery. The best way to determine if liposuction is right for you is by consulting with a qualified plastic surgeon.

If you are in the Columbia, MD area, you may wish to visit the website of Daniel P. Markmann, M.D. to learn more regarding liposuction. Dr. Markmann also performs breast augmentation surgery. You may also schedule an initial consultation to further discuss your body enhancing options.

Men and women who are seriously interested in body sculpting know by now that, in many cases, diet and exercise alone can’t attain that coveted chiseled physique. While many individuals do experience significant weight loss and greater physical fitness by hitting the gym and watching what they eat, fat in certain areas and excess skin in the abdomen may not respond to such regimens. Therefore, in order to get a step closer to reaching that ultimate level of aesthetic perfection, body contouring surgeries such as liposuction and tummy tucks can help.

Tummy tucks are used to remove excess skin from the abdomen to give a flatter, more toned appearance. Skin around the stomach can be stretched out from pregnancy or weight gain and, in most cases, can’t be restored to its original tautness without surgery. If your belly protrudes significantly when you relax your abdominal muscles, a tummy tuck may be able to help. Likewise, if you have a small amount of excess skin just above your pubis line, you may benefit from a mini-tummy tuck.

Liposuction is another popular body contouring procedure. Like tummy tuck surgery, liposuction is often used to smooth and flatten the abdomen. However, liposuction isn’t limited to the stomach—it can also be used on the neck, upper arms, breasts, hips, back, thighs, buttocks and knees. Advanced liposuction technologies—such as laser assisted liposuction or ultrasound assisted liposuction—allows doctors to actually shape the fat beneath the skin to create natural looking contours, which is why liposuction is often called “fat sculpting.”

Depending on your situation, you may be able to achieve results from a tummy tuck, liposuction or a combination of both. For more information, contact a local plastic surgeon to discuss your options. Dr. William P. Aiello, a Newport Beach liposuction doctor, offers free consultations in person or online. Simply call to schedule an appointment or attach photos of the areas you’d like treated and email them to info@oceanplasticsurgery.com.

Although she has maintained a healthy diet and regular exercise routine, there are areas on her body that have not slimmed down. In an episode of her reality show, “Kendra” on E! Entertainment Television, Baskett visits a plastic surgeon to learn of her options with liposuction surgery.

This procedure is designed to help patients remove stubborn pockets of fat in various areas of the body, such as the upper arms, abdomen, hips, lower back, and thighs. In Baskett’s case, she wants to get rid of the last few inches around her midsection and inner thighs. With the advancements in liposuction surgery, patients may anticipate better-contoured results and more pleasant recovery. It is important for patients to understand that this procedures is not a replacement for natural weight loss methods, rather as a way to help sculpt the body when other means have not provided successful.

If you are in search of an experienced liposuction surgeon in the Beverly Hills area, Stuart A. Linder, M.D., F.A.C.S. may be of assistance. You may learn more regarding this surgery by browsing his website www.drlinder.com.

Individuals who are overweight and considered obese, or even morbidly obese, often struggle with weight loss through natural means, such as diet and exercise. Oftentimes, a physician may recommend undergoing gastric bypass surgery in order to jumpstart weight loss. Post-surgery, patients will drop in weight, but are unfortunately often left with loose, excess skin in various areas of the body. In order to remove sagging skin and stubborn fat deposits, cosmetic plastic surgery may be performed.

Typically, tummy tuck surgery and liposuction are requested in order to achieve a more contoured midsection. While liposuction may be performed on several areas of the body, a tummy tuck is specifically performed on the stomach area. A qualified and experienced plastic surgeon can carefully sculpt the body with these surgeries. Tummy tuck surgery tightens the abdominal muscles and trims away hanging skin in the abdomen. Liposuction can remove fat deposits from the chin/neck, upper arms, lower back, abdomen, and thighs. When performed together, these body contouring procedures can help to provide patients with optimal results. By removing excess fat, risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol can be greatly reduced.

Many of us equate plastic surgery with the vanity, largesse, and elitism made famous by the perpetually sleek and youthful A-list Hollywood stars. But now, that perception is changing. As plastic surgery technology advances and becomes safer and more affordable, cosmetic surgery is making its way onto main street. This shift is embodied in shows like “Dr. 90210,” which seeks out ordinary individuals who feel that they are truly deserving of cosmetic surgery.

The most popular trend to emerge from the democratization of plastic surgery is the “Mommy Makeover.” Motherhood is a joyful journey, but it’s also marked by sacrifice. A woman’s body undergoes dramatic changes after childbirth, many of which are irreversible through non-surgical means. A mommy makeover is an umbrella term for a handful of procedures that are designed to undo these changes, including a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, breast lift, and liposuction. The goal isn’t to make the patient look like a movie star, it’s to make them look – and feel – like they did before childbirth. To friends and family, a Mommy Makeover is a subtle change. But for mothers, a makeover rewards their dedication to their family by potentially restoring their confidence and self-esteem.

Most mothers wait until they are at a stable weight and no longer plan to have any more children before having a Mommy Makeover. It’s not atypical for women to wait 10 or more years before undergoing procedures. However, as cosmetic surgery techniques develop, Mommy Makeovers can be performed with minimal disruption to the routine of a busy working mother. Under general anesthesia, tummy tucks, breast augmentations and other procedures can be performed all at once in as little as two hours; and with gentler, less invasive technology and smaller incisions, recovery time is much shorter. For example, at the office of Dr. Stuart Kincaid in San Diego, tummy tucks can be combined along with ZERONA or VASER liposuction treatments, which are far less intrusive than conventional liposuction methods, which are available throughout San Diego. Breast augmentation procedures can also be performed concurrently with a tummy tuck. In this way, a Mommy Makeover can be less painful, less time-consuming, and even less costly when performed during the same surgery setting.

With recent developments in health care, patient care for weight loss surgery (known as “Bariatric Surgery“) is being called into question. Recent news regarding patient safety, medical privacy and health care reform begs the question among prospective patients: “Is this all worth it?“

But many patients in North America are turning to an alternative for their health care: medical tourism.

Cost, safety, privacy and “fear of excessive taxation and regulation” are all contributing factors to prospective patients who are considering certain kinds of medical treatment, including weight loss and elective surgeries. Medical tourism is providing an alternative to patients with such concerns. But how far off the beaten path should one have to go for quality treatment in a safe, private and affordable setting?

Plastic surgeons like Hawaii liposuction specialist, Dr. Michael Pasquale, M.D., are in a unique and advantageous position. With a practice located in Honolulu, Hawaii, Dr. Pasquale can offer plastic surgery procedures to patients willing to travel, but with all the safety credentials of a North American board certified plastic surgery practice. Median liposuction costs run about $5,000 per treatment area, but Dr. Pasquale touts a competitive average liposuction cost of about $3,500-4,500 per treatment area.

It is important to remember however, that along with its advantages, traveling abroad for medical treatment presents a new batch of potential risks as well. Foreign facilities may not be held to the same standards of safety and expertise. Furthermore, with foreign facilities, pre-screening for patient eligibility as well as post-surgical follow-ups are dubious, at best. Unless a patient is able to meet with their non-resident surgeon multiple times both before and after surgery, the level of care is inconsistent with that obtained by a local doctor.

There’s also the issue of full medical credibility, as the Canadian newspaper, The Drumheller Mail notes: “…one can’t help but be wary of an outfit who tries to sell their medical procedure with promises of free nights of hotel accommodation, travel planning, and sometimes with sightseeing opportunities thrown in!” As is the case with having your plastic surgery procedure performed locally, patient research of the practice and physician, procedure and surgical facility is a cornerstone of a successful surgical experience.

As the landscape of the medical industry and the care said industry provides continues to change, prospective patients must be reminded that protection of their health and safety are and rightfully still should be the chief concerns of all parties involved, including any medical professional who is even worth seeing for a consultation.
